About Us
Psychology Works Rockhampton is a new psychology practice, being established at Suite 2, 72 Bolsover Street, Rockhampton, in January 2022, by Cherie Haig.
While Psychology Works Rockhampton is new to the Rockhampton area, Cherie, who holds a Honours degree in psychology, has worked in a variety of practice settings, with adults, adolescents, and children in the Rockhampton area in excess of 10 years.
Through her work with children, Cherie was motivated to train in the therapeutic intervention of sandplay and symbol work, which she regularly applies as an adjunct to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). While sandplay is especially well suited for working with young children, who often cannot express their inner feelings in words, it is also a technique that is helpful for some adolescents and adults who may have trouble expressing themselves.
In Australia all registered psychologists can assess, diagnose, and treat clients within the limits of their competence. During her years of practice Cherie has gained wide-ranging experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various psychological and mental health issues.
Cherie has undertaken extensive training in the assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the use of therapeutic evidence-based interventions, such as Westmead Feelings Program 1; Westmead Feelings Program 2; and TALi Health.
Cherie has completed the training required to provide Medicare rebated non-directive pregnancy support counselling services. These services are available to any woman who is concerned about a current pregnancy or a pregnancy that occurred in the preceding 12 months.
Cherie has also trained in 1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching™ which is an evidence-based intervention to address the difficult task of child discipline using humour, keen insight, and proven experience.
Attending therapy for the first time can be daunting. Cherie will work with you in an honest, thoughtful, respectful, and caring way to assist you to identify and meet your goals of therapy.
